Getting Old
Words and music by Michael Benning Grebb
Lyrics
Well, I just turned 30 the other day
and I didn’t worry ’cause I felt the same
But now some guy who’s 25 says
what I thought was cool is cold
and I can’t help but think I might be getting old
Yeah, I can’t help but think I must be getting old
I was listening to the radio
’cause someone told me
that’s where pop culture goes
But it all sounded so familiar—
it was the same old shit that I was sold
when I was fifteen and I thought 30 was getting old
Yeah, I don’t get it so I guess I’m getting old
Well, don’t you know it’s all relative
And though in medieval times
30 was an awful long time to live,
we’re in this shiny new century,
and I can still drink your ass
under the table, and I can still act like I’m 23
Well, you know I’ve stopped being so distraught
’cause though a mathematician I am not,
I figured out that when I’m 80,
kids now half my age will be 65
By then it won’t matter—
we’ll all just be happy to be alive
Yeah, we should all be happy to be alive
Yeah, I’m just so happy to be alive
At least ’till I’m 35
